(2) Lobsters live on the ocean floor. They need a home base down

there, a range within which they hunt for prey and scavenge
around for stray edible bits and pieces of whatever rains down
from the continual chaos of carnage and death far above. They
want somewhere secure, where the hunting and the gathering is

good. They want a home.
This can present a problem, since there are many lobsters. What
if two of them occupy the same territory, at the bottom of the
ocean, at the same time, and both want to live there? What if

there are hundreds of lobsters, all trying to make a living and
raise a family, in the same crowded patch of sand and refuse?

바닷가재는 해저에서 살아간다. 바닷가재에게도 본거지가 필요
하다. 위에서는 학살과 죽음이 끝없이 계속되고, 그런 혼돈의
부산물이 바닥에 떨어져 내린다. 바닷가재는 그 영역 내에서 먹

잇감을 사냥하고, 먹을 만한 부스러기를 찾아 주변을 뒤적거린
다. 바닷가재는 안전한 곳, 수렵과 채집을 편하게 할 수 있는 곳
을 원한다. 한 마디로, 바닷가재도 보금자리를 원한다.

여기에서 문제가 야기된다. 안전한 보금자리를 원하는 바닷가재
가 많기 때문이다. 만약 두 마리의 바닷가재가 해저에서 동일한
시간에 동일한 영역을 점유하며, 그곳에 살려고 한다면 어떻게
되겠는가? 또 수백 마리의 바닷가재가 생계를 꾸리고 가족을 부

양하려고, 똑같은 영역에서 한정된 부스러기를 두고 다투어야
한다면 어떻게 되겠는가?
