that have arisen around gaming culture and social me-
dia. The intention of the book is to show the reader how
words are used alongside other terms and expressions

within the language more broadly. This should lead to a
richer understanding of the word’s meaning within dif-
fering contexts.
Writing the book was a lot of fun. One might think

that it would be easy to write for a native English speak-
er, but this was not necessarily the case. Of course, the
words were familiar, but trying to convey their deeper
meaning was a challenge. Some of the words are very

nearly synonymous with each other and finding the
subtle differences in their underlying insinuations was
like doing semantic detective work.
I hope that those who read this book find its con-

tents interesting, informative and entertaining. Be sure
to keep your eyes open for references to my favorite an-
imals: frogs. Emotions are perhaps the most central part
of the human experience, so being more confident in

using emotional vocabulary can only stand you in good
stead on your journey of learning English.
