Preface

            Emotions are hard to put into words. They are there, in
            our heads, before we can even open our mouths. It is
            more natural to feel them than to describe them. They

            are hard to pin down in concepts and hard to distinguish
            between. Rarely do we feel only one singular emotion,
            and rarely can we describe exactly how that emotion
            feels to us personally. Emotional language is therefore

            slippery, consisting of semantic nuances and ambigu-
            ities, differing sometimes wildly between cultures, class-
            es and individuals.
               This book hopes to assist those learning English

            with deciphering the murky waters of emotional vocab-
            ulary. It is targeted at higher-intermediate to advanced
            learners, aiming to enrich their vocabularies beyond
            basic emotional terms like “happy” and “sad”. The words

            range from simple to complex and obscure, giving the
            reader plenty of ammunition for their linguistic arsenal.
            They also include popular modern vernacular and slang;
