Day 01 Business Trip 출장 ▶ p.150
Last month, I went on a five-day business trip to Tokyo. My team and I went to attend
a seminar among other things. The schedule was tight for the first couple of days. On
the first day, we were supposed to listen to a guest speaker. He arrived late so the
coordinator decided to change the schedule. We heard about the release of a new
product first instead. When the speaker ended his speech we had a question-and-
answer session with him. The seminar was over earlier than originally scheduled. For the
second day, we wanted to have a meeting with a designer. However, we failed to set up
a meeting due to our conflicting schedules.
Over the next couple of days we were introduced to some potential clients. We were
dealing with ones that were interested in our products. One of the clients we met was a
venture capitalist. It is a great opportunity for us to have the chance to work with him.
On the final day, some of us toured around the city. The others ended up staying at the
hotel getting massages. That night, we all went to go sing karaoke. I didn’t have enough
time to check out the city. So I decided to use some of my vacation days and extend my
trip and will stay a couple of days longer.
Day 02 Urgent Meeting 긴급 회의 ▶ p.154
We have regular meetings at the office. They are usually once a week, on Fridays. In
the case that not everyone can be there at once, we have video conferences. It saves
us time to do it this way. We don’t talk about things like personal opinions or delicate
issues. This time is usually reserved for communicating with each other and coming up
with ideas.
This Friday, the manager called an extra meeting all of a sudden. He said it was urgent.
It was about how we wanted to do more promotions for our new product. Minutes
before, he requested an estimate from our ad agency. The agency said it would be
over 200 million won to do it. He said that although it’s an investment, it’s still risky. He
wanted to know our opinions because he is hesitant. Our manager cares too much what
others think and feel. He needs to just take action because we are all very busy. We
wanted the meeting to quickly wrap up so we could get back to the office. I wish that
my boss would make decisions quicker and on his own.
